Ongoing update of fishing licenses in connection with new legislation

In accordance with the new Fisheries Act, Inatsisartut Act No. 29 of 23 May 2024, which entered into force on 1 January 2025, it is a mandatory requirement for fishers to register their vessels with both a CVR number (Central Business Register) and a GR number (Greenland Vessel Register).

Permits for Dinghy Fishers in 2026

The Department of Fisheries, Hunting, Agriculture and Sustainability is continuously collecting information regarding registered CVR numbers and vessels.

The first update of licenses was originally scheduled for February 1, 2026. On this date, fishing licenses were intended to receive a new number and be issued. Due to technical challenges, this update has not yet been completed as planned.

Important Guidelines:

  • Current Licenses: Until further notice, the current license number must continue to be used for all landings.

  • Upcoming Schedule: The license updates will take place in the coming period. The first update is scheduled for June 1, 2026, followed by a second update on November 1, 2026.

Information regarding the progress of this process will be provided on an ongoing basis.
